Do You Have the Passion?

The main difference I feel between the normal IT and game industry is that everyone seems to be in love with their job here. There's no such thing as "this is such a crappy program, I wouldn't buy it in a thousand years", or finding a way to be lazy as much as possible, or chatting when your boss is not around.

Everybody just wants to code, design, and get the game as good as possible. So much enthusiasm and passion for work. We may be the lucky few. Not many jobs offer you such satisfaction. Not many people like their jobs this much.

Maybe that's why there isn't much $ in this industry.
So that we get only the people that's in for the passion.
It's kind of important, you know =)

Even if there's money, it won't be on the developers hand.

The thing about passion is how long you will have it and how long you can have it as your main source of income.

I believe the majority of game developers are young and do not have family responsibilities. Otherwise we would've seen a larger percentage of game developers in their late 30s or 40s.
